Description
5 Sentidos Espadilla from Amando Alvarado Alvarez is made with wild maguey Espadilla (a. Sp.) in Santa Maria Ixcatlán, Oaxaca. As with all of Amando’s mezcal, the agaves were crushed by hand with wooden mallets, fermented in rawhide with spring water, and double distilled in clay pots. This nose features the sort of smoke one would find in charred peppers or burnt meat, with a grassy and green component underneath. The palate is much the same, with a sort of menthol-y numbing prickliness. Funky and strange!
